Margaret Wagner

Welcome… Let’s Get Moving!

I am a certified to lead both 5Rhythms® and Open Floor dance/movement modalities. I’m also an award-winner writer specializing in travel, dance/movement and seeing the universal in the mundane, as well as a certified Yin and Restorative yoga teacher. I teach in the urban backbeat of New York City, the melodic suburbs of Bethesda, MD or Philadelphia, PA, the soulful Australian outback, the sunny shores of California… or a neighborhood near you.

My dance classes are infused with the practical application of movement to everyday life, as well as the inspiration to unlock the artist soul-seeker within. Students receive the opportunity to clear their creative pathways with movement and then discover what stream-of-consciousness written prose, poetry or visual art flows from there, often allowing them to trust their own voices with greater power and ease.

I’ve led ART WAVES workshops at The Rubin Museum of Art in New York, NY, where movement is used to investigate the impact of visual stimuli and how it informs daily life. That class starts with gentle movement, then students get inspired by the shapes of the art and share what is invoked via a poem or doodle. In addition, I developed TAKIN’ IT TO THE STREETS, where participants move on The High Line, a public park in New York City built on an elevated freight rail line.

A student of the 5Rhythms® dance/movement practice since 2000 and trained by founder Gabrielle Roth, I’ve been an accredited 5RTA teacher since 2005, and all my workshops/classes count towards the 5Rhythms® Training Path. As a 5Rhythms® teacher, I’ve been part of the core faculty at Omega Institute (Rhinebeck, NY), a faculty assistant at Kripalu (Stockbridge, MA), a visiting faculty fellow at my alma mater, Mount Holyoke College (South Hadley, MA), and taught at the Greenwich Hospital Center for Integrative Medicine (Greenwich, CT). I was also a participant in Open Floor and Dances of Ecstasy (documentaries of Gabrielle Roth’s movement work).

I’m a Working Member of Open Floor International, a member of the International Movement Teachers Association, 5Rhythms® Teachers Association and have studied with Anna Halprin and the Tamalpa Institute, as well as with poets Ellen Bass, Marie Howe and Kim Rosen.
