The body says what words cannot

– Martha Graham

Conscious:

to be aware of and responding to one’s surroundings; awake

Dance:

to move rhythmically to music

When we move mindfully, we become aware of our breath, our emotions, our thoughts. We are in the present moment, clued into our senses, embodied and responding to what life offers.

We’ve all been moving since we were babies – wiggling our feet, jumping rope, skipping over a puddle. As adults, we can continue this free-spirited investigation by moving in our own tempo, rhythm or intensity to music from around the world.

On the dance floor, we connect with another person, with the group, or with ourselves. If we’re lucky, even, that sense of oneness with everything.

I offer pop-up conscious dance classes in the San Francisco Bay area, as well as in New York City and locations abroad.

Margaret Wagner teaches Open Floor classes in Marin County, California, and beyond
In an Open Floor class, you’ll gain resources to help you navigate your daily life, such as finding your Ground or Center, or practicing how to Release or Activate and Settle. No experience – happy or sad, smooth or awkward – is discarded, but rather moved and included.

We shake things up, investigating where we might be fixed in our lives and how we could become more flexible, physically, emotionally and mentally. We aim to broaden our experience, wild or subtle, and discover what is habit and what is choice.

Margaret Wagner teaches 5Rhythms® classes in Marin County, California, and beyond
Founded by author, urban shaman and theater director Gabrielle Roth, 5Rhythms® moves through five specific energies: Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness. Each rhythm has its own guiding personality and gift:

  • Flowing, to experience being fluid
  • Staccato, to express oneself in a focused way
  • Chaos, to shed what isn’t needed
  • Lyrical, to traverse the earth with a lightness of spirit
  • Stillness, to move calmly and be with everything in life
